Keep Your Eyes On The Road

We have all heard horror stories about vehicle accidents caused by distracted drivers and recently such stories have become even more frequent. Last month was Distracted Driving Awareness Month and as we start May, is a good time to think carefully about this growing problem.

Even though many states have passed laws against texting while driving and other driver distractions, many drivers continue to abuse their driving privilege and cause accidents – even fatal ones – because they think a momentary distraction is “no problem”. Well, it IS A PROBLEM and fast becoming a serious one. The American Automobile Association (AAA) Foundation says that distracted drivers cause about 8,000 accidents every single day and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that those accidents kill over 15 people and injure another 1,200 – every day.

We have always had things that can distract us from the serious job of driving but cell phones and other portable electronic devices represent an added level of temptation and danger. Texting and simply making calls while driving prove as much a hazard as driving while intoxicated (DWI). Remember, even some of the most common and seemingly harmless activities can prove deadly if they represent a distraction.
• Eating, drinking and grooming
• Talking or interacting with passengers
• Reading anything – including maps and your GPS
• Tuning the radio or setting the GPS
All of these are potential distractions that can be life threatening to you, your passengers and others on the road.

Our next Blog will provide some additional facts and figures about this growing problem. In the mean time, if you want to avoid facts and figures about your credit rating come to Norton Automotive Group at our new location to see if we can provide you with some new wheels regardless of credit issues.
